John T. Cocoris, TH.M., Psy.D.
Since Donald Trump has been running for President of The United States, several have commented that he does not have the temperament to be president. The way the term temperament is being used suggests a president should be kind, non-direct, and pleasant. This is not a correct use of the term temperament, nor is it the definition. The word “temperament” means “right blending” and refers to a person’s natural tendencies with which they are born.
Donald Trump’s temperament is Choleric-Sanguine (D/I), and he is a natural leader. The Choleric-Sanguine (D/I) is first result-oriented, but also has an interest in people. The Choleric-Sanguine (D/I) has confidence in their ability to get results. They make the best leader in time of crisis. The political environment is not accustomed to having such a strong, natural leader as Donald Trump. Donald Trump is by far the most powerful, natural leader, the political community has every ever seen.
Brief overview of Donald Trump’s Temperament: The Choleric-Sanguine (D/I) is called the Executive Pattern. This person tends to be very impatient and will often take a win/lose approach to life. They are practical and use direct methods to get quick results, but still show an interest in people. They are goal and bottom line oriented, and can be very persuasive in promoting their ideas. They want to be in charge because of confidence in their ability to make decisions. They have boundless energy, and need activity and results or they become bored. They need daily challenge and others willing to listen to them to carry out their plans. This versatile, eager, self-starter is very competitive. To be highly motivated they need freedom, the opportunity for advancement, and information that will help them get results. They like having power and authority. The Choleric (High D) fights for what they think is the right way to accomplish the goal, but they can accept momentary defeat and tend not to be grudge holders. They dislike weakness in others.
